about us
Located on the Isle of Wight, Island Security Ltd provides a comprehensive range of security solutions and protection services throughout England. Our client portfolio is diverse, given that we service industrial, commercial, public and private sectors. I.S.L assignments range from, for example, the patrolling of premises operated by the UK’s leading manufacturer in its field, to Concierge/Security Receptionists at a residential unit for vulnerable young adults.
These two example contracts differ greatly in operational terms yet, stand equal as valued custom, receiving Best Practice delivery quality and customer service. This mind set of service quality and driven commitment to customer satisfaction has placed I.S.L apart from the mainstream, from which we take great pride and focus growth. Island Security Ltd is risk assessment proactive throughout and our clients are reassured by our diligent approach to Health and Safety at Work. It is our intention for Island Security Ltd to achieve 'Approved Contractor' status with our governing body, the S.I.A.
The Approved Contractor Scheme, when introduced, will be the hallmark of quality across the Private Security Industry. I.S.L remains on schedule for UKAS approved BS EN ISO 9001:2000 accreditation in the summer of 2006. We are mindful that the delivery of Best Practice services lies in the hands of our dedicated workforce, the men and women on the ground who diligently protect our clients and their assets.
The S.I.A. now make it incumbent on the Private Security Industry to invest in recruitment, training and retention of its workforce in order to operate to standards already ensconced and in practice at I.S.L. Historically this has not been the case throughout the Industry, a combination of factors including unqualified/ill-equipped smaller service providers opting in and out of the industry coupled with sustained financial pressure from consumers (in their efforts to control costs), has for many years fuelled the depletion of standards, hence the interventions of Government via the Private Security Industry Act.
Reporting to the Home Secretary, the S.I.A. is responsible for reforming and regulating the Private Security Industry. Those resistant to change (whether they be suppliers, security operatives or consumers), may encounter the teeth of legislation, heavy fines and imprisonment.
Our security officers are trained to the Security Industry Authority standards.
They undergo training courses to give them the knowledge they need to guard your premises to a high standard.
The Experience To Deliver
Prior to the submission of our quotation I.S.L will carry out a security survey to ensure that we can meet your requirements, which is free of charge and performed by experts. Apart from their total 40 years experience in the manned guarding field of operations they also hold the relevant qualifications in aspiring to man management techniques, Health & Safety competency including Risk Assessment compilation, rostering, disciplinary codes of practise, leadership by example and NVQ Assessors.
Directors execute a regular client liaison plan through-out the term of the agreement. They plan, organise and control their portfolio of accounts to ensure we keep the account for its entire duration and never lose business to service related issues. Our staff has to have a method to communicate with us for their own health safety and to notify us if they need support with any incident that has occurred. I.S.L has its own field managers supporting the services on-duty 24 hours a day. Their role is to support the field staff in emergencies and supervise the services we provide by visiting the sites at irregular intervals.
Our staff keep a Daily Occurrence Log to record all duties and any incidents that may have prevailed on the shift. ‘Incident Reports’ are also completed for anything untoward that has occurred during the tour of duty. Our officers are instructed to fully co-operate to support the emergency services at all times and if necessary attend Court proceedings that may prevail later. Our officers are trained to use technology and CCTV systems if they form part of the security system at the premises.
If there is a specific training need I.S.L will arrange the on-site training as required.
Clients may use the officers to carry out basic administration tasks as long as this not deter him/her from the basic security functions they are there to perform. As routine officers will close and lock doors and windows that should be secured, switch off electrical sockets unless specifically asked not to.
Challenge people not known to him/her. Turn off water taps, outlets supplying leaking pipes, remove fire hazards, remove debris from fire escapes, fight small fires and/or liaise with the fire brigade, police and ambulance services assisting access and assisting with the geography of the premises. He/she can also administer basic first aid, as a recognised first aider.
All of these measures are designed to make the services cost effective by preventing waste. He/she will also regularly make recommendations to improve the security of the premises on an ongoing basis. Furthermore directors on customer liaison visits will also make suggestions to improve your security after having received feedback from the field staff.
The customers are requested to provide messing facilities, electricity, basic heating, running fresh water and a base area to which the officer can operate from, preferably in an advantaged area where they can observe and actively participate in access control.
Our insurances Policies include cover for Employers Liability, Public Liability and False Arrest.
A Credible Company
Island Security Ltd security services are designed and executed to a very professional standard within the industry guidelines. We operate within SIA guidelines and concentrate on the vetting procedures of our staff to ensure every effort is made to recruit the correct quality of labour operating in the market place and pay them the best possible rates available. This has the effect of keeping labour turn-over to a minimum and consequently delivering a consistent service 24 hours a day seven days a week.
In 2005 our industry is undergoing major change with the introduction of licensing. All of our staff have to obtain a license to operate as a security officer in the United Kingdom. Our organisation fully endorses this statute which is long overdue.
The objectives of the Private Security Act are to ensure that the service provided is by qualified (trained) individuals that are honest and trustworthy to guard your most valued assets around the clock, thus removing the unprofessional element of those unscrupulous companies still operating in our industry by enforcement rather than relying on good practise by those already in the industry.
Our organisation will also actively accord registration on the authorised suppliers list as part of the SIA scheme.
